The Stillsons

Formed in 2006 The Stillsons are a country roots band whose song writing is shared between the two lead vocalists, Englishman Justin Bernasconi (guitar) and Melbournite - Cat Canteri (drums).

They both met each other in the summer of 2007 met after Bernasconi began recording ‘Birds’ in a run-down backpackers in St Kilda.

Enduring breakdowns, insomnia and near bankruptcy in the year following, they produced ten highly individual tracks which would later become their debut Album ‘Circus’.

It was released in April 2009 to critical acclaim - “the album Circus stands out...” - The Sunday Herald Sun. Since then it has been played on Triple J, ABC and BBC.

Their music video "Charity and Ghosts" is also played regularly on the Country Music Channel and ABC RAGE!

Following the release of ‘Circus’, Cat and Justin were joined by a melodic heavy weight from WA Ben Franz (pedal-steel). Ben immediately took up the reigns of engineering and production on their second album second album “Earnest” which will be released later this year.

By blending pop sensibilities, bush poetry, and echoes of blues rock of the 1970s, Bernasconi and Canteri throw a fresh light onto Australian history: English Child Migration Schemes to Australia 1914-1967 (WA), droughts in Moondarra (VIC); young male suicides in Regional Victoria; all are brought to the musical fore.

As well as playing numerous Festivals, in the past three years The Stillsons have toured the UK and constantly tour Australia.

‘Circus’ is available through MGM/Green Distribution Media and in all good music stores nationally and on iTunes.
