Robbie Derringer
Melbourne roots artist Robbie Derringer pays homage to some of his favorite songwriters on his brilliant self titled debut album. Robbie together with long time friend and Melbourne producer/engineer Carl Dedic deliver a collection of lesser known songs with a truly unique artistic vision that serves as both tribute and rebirth. Recorded over 12 months by Carl Dedic at his Lost Road Recording studio, the roots duo brought together a collection of friends and musicians from the cream of the Australian musical landscape to flesh out their vision. The album features the likes of Ian Kitney from 'Tim Rogers & the Temperance Union', John Bedggood from Bernard Fanning's band & 'Carus and the True Believers', Chris & Pete D'Rozario from 'Firebird', and Mark Lang & Chris Helm from 'Skipping Girl Vinegar'. The focus for the album was to bring to the fore a new musical and vocal interpretation for each song, whilst maintaining the utmost respect for the original writers. From traditional influences in songs such as the Dave Rawlings/Gillian Welch penned “Pass You By” to the understated feel in Richard Buckner’s “Once”, Robbie makes each song his own with distinctive, heartfelt vocal interpretations. Carefully chosen and arranged instrumentation, including dobro, lap steel and mandolin, perfectly compliments Robbie’s vocals.
